How Location Pages Help Trades Businesses Rank in More Areas

A common but weak pattern: one page listing ten towns a business serves, with a sentence each. It reads fine to a human, but does very little for search. Google generally can't rank one thin page for ten different local searches simultaneously. We've seen this firsthand with a garden maintenance and landscaping business covering a wide patch of the Glasgow area: one page for every suburb did far less than a proper page each.

What works instead

A dedicated page per town or area, each with genuinely specific local content, not just the town name swapped into a template sentence, but real local detail: postcodes, nearby landmarks, specific roads, and what makes that particular area's service needs distinct if anything does.

The trap to avoid

"We provide [service] in [town]. Call us today." repeated 15 times with only the town name changed is exactly what Google's algorithms are built to detect and discount.

Thin, near-duplicate location pages can do more harm than the single combined page they replaced. Each page needs to earn its place with genuinely different, useful content.

Building a location page properly

1

Pick the real areas

Towns the business genuinely covers, not a padded list to look bigger.

2

Add real local detail

Postcodes, landmarks, roads: specifics a template sentence can't fake.

3

Link nearby areas together

Each page mentions neighbouring towns, building a natural internal-linking network.

4

Keep it distinct

Anything that genuinely varies by area, pricing, response time, gets stated, not glossed over.

  • Real local detail specific to that area, not generic filler
  • A mention of nearby towns, to build a natural internal-linking network
  • Local pricing or response-time detail if it genuinely varies by area
  • Photos or reviews specifically mentioning that location, if available

Done properly, this is one of the most reliable ways for a service-area business to expand its reach across many towns without diluting quality. It just takes real content, not a find-and-replace exercise.
