How to Get More Google Reviews Without Annoying Customers

Review count and rating are among the strongest local ranking factors there are, but there's a right and wrong way to go after more of them. One of our own clients went from 23 to 40 Google reviews in about 12 hours simply by fixing when and how the ask happened, which tells you most of what you need to know about how much this comes down to process rather than luck.

What works

Turning a finished job into a review

1

Ask at the right moment

Right after the job's done, while satisfaction is at its highest, not days later.

2

Send a direct link

Straight to the review form, not just a general "leave us a review" message.

3

Use the channel people respond to

Text or WhatsApp tends to outperform email for response rate.

4

Make it automatic

Built into how every job wraps up, so it never depends on someone remembering.

What Google explicitly doesn't allow

Offering discounts or incentives in exchange for reviews, review gating (only asking happy customers while filtering out unhappy ones before they can post publicly), and fake or incentivised reviews generally. Google actively polices this, and getting caught can mean the whole profile gets suppressed or removed.

The realistic target

Consistency beats bursts. A steady trickle of new, genuine reviews every week reads to Google (and to customers) as an active, trustworthy business, far more than an old pile of reviews with nothing recent.
