Do You Actually Need a Website?

It depends what kind of business you run. A website isn't a magic box that prints customers: it's a tool, and like any tool it's only worth having if it does a job you need done. We've built sites for garages, recovery firms, renovators and food businesses, and the honest answer changes depending which one you are.

When you probably don't need one

If every job comes from word of mouth, repeat customers, or a trade account with other businesses, a website might add little at first. Plenty of small operators run for years on reputation alone, especially in tight-knit trades where everyone already knows who does good work.

When you almost certainly do

The moment someone searches "[your trade] near me" and finds three competitors but not you, you're losing jobs you'll never know you missed. That's the real cost of not having one: not looking unprofessional, but enquiries going to someone else because they were easier to find. It's the same gap whether it's a recovery firm missing roadside searches or a renovator missing someone comparing kitchen fitters.

Word of mouth alone vs. word of mouth plus a website

Reputation only

  • Only reaches people who already know the business exists
  • Nothing for a new customer to check before calling
  • Invisible to anyone searching the service and area online
  • No obvious place to send people from a van sign or a flyer

Reputation plus a website

  • Reachable by anyone searching the trade in the area, not just existing contacts
  • A place to send people who want to check the business out first
  • Shows up alongside competitors instead of being left off the list entirely
  • Gives every other bit of marketing somewhere to actually send people
  • You rely on new customers finding you, not just repeat business
  • Competitors in your area show up on Google and you don't
  • You want customers to be able to check you out before calling
  • You're spending money on other marketing that has nowhere to send people

If two or more of those sound like you, a website isn't optional polish. It's the difference between being findable and being invisible to anyone who doesn't already know your name.

If that sounds like your business, the natural next questions are what a site actually needs, what it should cost and our pricing.
